Playing Ranji Trophy quarterfinals for the first time, Orissa lost to mighty Bombay by an innings and 255 runs on the penultimate day of the four-day match at Wankhede Stadium in Bombay today. Bombay captain Ashok Mankad led them to the tumping win, hitting an unbeaten 150.
Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Bombay declared their first innings at 500 for nine. Among other successful Bombay batsman, opener Shishir Hattangadi slammed 141, while Surendra Nayak and Rahul Mankad scored a half-century each. Among Orissa bowlers, Harmohan Praharaj was most successful, bagging four wickets, while Somnath Sahoo and Anil Bhardwaj picked up a brace each.
In reply, Orissa were dismissed for a paltry 92, which featured 28 by Praharaj and 26 by Karun Dubey. Forced to follow on, conceding a first-innings lead of 408, Orissa were all out for 153 in their second innings. BKR Patnaik with 43 runs was the top scorer.
